Few Bits

Just a few paintings I've done lately. Been trying to improve lately and I'm pretty happy with my progress. I recently purchased Structura 2: the art of Sparth and must say that its given me a huge boost in motivation. Recommend it big time for anyone into things that look awesome!

Material Studies

Thought I'd spend some time practicing fundamentals. Learned a lot from this excercise :) Got it from Cgcookie.org. Definately worth doing if you havn't tried something like this.

Lumigraph Process

Took roughly about 4 hours. Really enjoyed painting this piece, probably cause it meant a bit more to me than my usual work, more sentimental anyways.... Felt that the process was a lot more organic as opposed to planned out and so painting it was exciting..... having no idea where it would go.

Cultural Response

I had to create a responce to a cultural event I attended recently for college. Figured Electric Picnic is as cultural as any event, not to mention that, yet again, it was the highlight of my year... Of all the fond memeories of that weekend (the few that i can remember), the forest rave stands out as an experience unique to EP. Good tunes, nice people... in a forest... Unreal craic! So I decided to try to describe visually what it was like being there, for those who have never been.

Charicature

A quick charicature i did for the Irish Sketch Society last week. Had values in mind while doing this, good practice but I felt I could have pushed the distortions of his face. It always happens midway through a charicature where I chicken out because I feel the resemblance might get lost. I think its a product of looking at the painting for too long and over thinking things. Enjoyed the process tho ! :)

Wolverine

A character design of wolverine I did for the Irish sketch society. Was happy with how this turned out overall, although the design needs a bit of work. I get very impatient and tend to rush off into rendering..need to beat that out of me somehow :/

Whale Concept to 3D Model

Here are examples of developing a character  from my 3rd film "Cold War". I started off with a few whale shapes. The team then decided on a favourite and I then took that design further working with my director Dave Leahy to come up with a final design. Nicky Weston (nickywestondesign@gmail.com) then modelled my designs in 3Ds Max. We were all very happy with the finished character.... although the finished whale's head kinda reminds me of H.R Geiger's Alien.

Character Sketches For New Film

Todays the first day in a long time that i haven't been under pressure of college assignments so ironically i stayed up sketching. Decided to colour one in photoshop....enjoy.

Day at the Zoo...

So theres currently a hold up with me uploading artwork from "Cold War". I am currently constructing an online portfolio (Http://sammykhalidart.daportfolio.com is you wanna check it out ;)....) so im in the middle of cutting and pasting everything so that it looks somewhat mor professional :/ So as a consoltation, i shal leave you with a couple of photos i took today at the zoo. I was really lucky, the sumatran tigers posed for me for ages!Some tiger related artwork to come soon.................

Painting Studies

I am currently sorting out the artwork from my latest film 'Cold War' which was completed last Friday. There was five of us working on it and it turned out really well considering we only had 4 weeks to make it. Its taking way longer to sort out the concept art for the film so I thought I'd post a couple of recent painting studies. Both were painted in Photoshop using photo reference. These were just warm up paintings before starting on my own work although i did spend about an hour or so on each.

Just started pre-production on my third student film titled "Cold War". So far I've been just working away on character and environment concepts.This sort of stuff i love to do. Need to start production mid next week so pressure is slowly building:(... anyways, here are a few character concepts. More to come soon :)

Mid Term!

Finally got my second film finished :D Barely slept last week so I've been taking it easy this week and working on my painting doing studies and what not. I do have some artwork from my film "Pithos" with Dylan Maxwell I've been meaning to upload. Just some colour tests and backgrounds:)
